Inspect and Measure the Engine

Check the engine cases, bearing locations, oil passages, cylinder head, valve guides, and valve seats during teardown. Next, measure the crankshaft journals, rod clearances, bearing clearances, and crankshaft end play.

Verify piston clearance and ring end gaps using the supplied component specifications. In addition, confirm valve-seat contact, valve lash, chain alignment, and engine timing before final assembly.
