The Polaris 400 top end refresh kit supplies a piston ring and replacement valves while reusing the existing piston and cylinder. Inspect those reusable parts before choosing this kit.

This kit does not list a top-end or complete gasket set. Therefore, check which gaskets the repair requires and purchase them separately when needed.

Inspect the Reusable Top-End Parts

First, inspect and measure the piston and cylinder. Next, check the valve guides and seats for wear. Also, inspect the rocker arms and camshaft surfaces before installing the new valves.

If the existing piston cannot be reused, compare the Polaris Ranger and Sportsman 400 standard piston kit for 2005–2014 models. That piston package includes the pictured piston, rings, wrist pin, and clips.

Compare the Valve-Only Option

If the repair only requires intake and exhaust valves, review the Polaris Ranger and Sportsman 400 complete valve kit. That package supplies the same valve quantities without the piston ring.

Assembly and Break-In
