Inside the REV6 CNC Engine & Transmission Rebuild Process
Inside the REV6 CNC Engine & Transmission Rebuild Process
At REV6, we don’t just rebuild engines and transmissions — we remanufacture them to exceed OEM standards. With over 50 years of combined experience in ATV, UTV, snowmobile, and watercraft engine building, our process delivers unmatched precision, power, and durability. Every engine is backed by our Better Than New Guarantee and a 1-Year Warranty for peace of mind. Here’s an in-depth look at how our CNC machining process ensures your engine is built to dominate.
Step 1: Full Inspection & Deep Cleaning
Every remanufacture begins with a complete teardown and meticulous inspection. We deep clean all components using industrial-grade ultrasonic and high-pressure cleaning systems to eliminate oil residue, carbon buildup, and microscopic debris. This allows our team to detect wear, cracks, or other damage that could impact performance or reliability.
Step 2: CNC Machining for Precision Tolerances
What is CNC Machining? CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control, a process where pre-programmed software precisely controls machining tools like mills, lathes, and grinders. These machines execute incredibly accurate operations that hand tools can’t match, offering micrometer-level accuracy, consistent results across every engine, and reduced human error.
At REV6, CNC machining is the core of our remanufacturing process. We re-deck engine cases for perfect sealing, rebore cylinders for optimal piston-to-wall clearance, and resurface transmission housings to factory or better-than-factory specs. Whether we’re working on a Polaris Sportsman, Can-Am Maverick, or Yamaha engine, CNC machines allow us to dial in the tolerances that push power and performance beyond OEM levels.
Step 3: Critical Component Inspection & Replacement
Our team inspects every wear component and replaces them with new or upgraded parts. Key checks include engine cases, which are inspected for cracks or warping with brand-new replacements available upon request. Camshafts and balance shafts are measured and trued for smooth operation. Crankshafts are replaced with heavy-duty, upgraded versions for better load capacity. Lifters and bearings are all replaced with high-performance components. Gaskets and seals are 100% replaced to ensure leak-proof reliability. This process ensures your build runs clean, strong, and dependable under any riding condition.
Step 4: Forged Pistons & Re-Plated Cylinders
REV6 installs forged, moly-coated pistons. These pistons resist heat, pressure, and wear far better than cast alternatives. Combined with professionally re-plated cylinders, your engine will achieve improved heat dissipation, consistent compression, and reduced friction and wear. Want to upgrade your internals? Step 5: Transmission Rebuild & Tuning
We rebuild every transmission to match the torque and RPM curves of your upgraded engine. This includes gear inspection and replacement, clutch pack upgrades, and fine-tuned shift points. Whether you’re crawling rocks or tearing dunes, our rebuilt transmissions are tuned for smooth, responsive performance. Need a drivetrain refresh? Check out our transmission rebuild kits.
