REV6 Rebuild Kit Contents: What’s in Each of the 7 Kit Types?

 In Tutorials

What Is Included in Each REV6 Kit Type?

A kit name tells you the general scope of a rebuild, but it does not show every component at a glance. What is the difference between a Top End and a Master Top End kit? Which engine kit lists a cylinder? Where do the crankshaft, bearings, and seals fit?

This guide lays out the parts listed for seven REV6 rebuild kit types and explains what those components do. REV6 parts kits are designed and assembled by our master engine technicians, who bring years of powersports experience to the work.

If you are new to kits, read our overview of powersports parts and rebuild kits first. If you are unsure about your vehicle details, use the makes and models fitment guide. This article focuses on the components inside the kit types.

REV6 rebuild kits bring related engine components together for your repair. Our master engine technicians design and assemble these kits using years of powersports experience. Watch the kit overview below, then compare the seven kit types and confirm the exact contents for your vehicle.

Parts Listed for the Seven Rebuild Kit Types

These lists show how the REV6 kit types are organized. Contents and quantities vary by vehicle. Before buying, use the product page for your exact year, make, model, and engine to confirm what is included.

Top End Rebuild Kit

The Top End Rebuild Kit groups piston and sealing components for upper-engine work.

  • Piston(s)
  • Piston rings
  • Top end gaskets
  • Valve seals

Complete Top End Rebuild Kit

The Complete Top End Rebuild Kit also lists a cylinder, which provides the working surface for the pistons and rings.

  • Cylinder
  • Pistons
  • Piston rings
  • Top end gaskets
  • Valve seals

Master Top End Rebuild Kit

The Master Top End Rebuild Kit lists intake and exhaust valves along with the cylinder and piston components.

  • Intake valves
  • Exhaust valves
  • Cylinder
  • Pistons
  • Piston rings
  • Top end gaskets
  • Valve seals

Complete Bottom End Rebuild Kit

This kit groups the crankshaft, connecting rods, bearings, chains, gaskets, and seals listed for lower-engine work.

  • Crankshaft
  • Cam chain (timing chain)
  • Oil pump chain
  • Connecting rods
  • Complete bearing kit
  • Complete gasket and seal kit
  • Oil seal set
  • Valve seals

Engine Rebuild Kit

The Engine Rebuild Kit lists a piston kit together with crankshaft, connecting rod, bearing, chain, gasket, and seal components.

  • Piston kit
  • Crankshaft
  • Connecting rods
  • Cam chain (timing chain)
  • Oil pump chain
  • Complete bearing kit
  • Complete gasket and seal kit
  • Oil seal set
  • Valve seals

Complete Engine Rebuild Kit

The Complete Engine Rebuild Kit lists a cylinder in addition to the engine rebuild components.

  • Cylinder
  • Piston kit
  • Crankshaft
  • Connecting rods
  • Cam chain (timing chain)
  • Oil pump chain
  • Complete bearing kit
  • Complete gasket and seal kit
  • Oil seal set
  • Valve seals

Master Engine Rebuild Kit

The Master Engine Rebuild Kit lists intake and exhaust valves along with the cylinder and the other engine rebuild components.

  • Intake valves
  • Exhaust valves
  • Cylinder
  • Piston kit
  • Crankshaft
  • Connecting rods
  • Cam chain (timing chain)
  • Oil pump chain
  • Complete bearing kit
  • Complete gasket and seal kit
  • Oil seal set
  • Valve seals

Check your specific listing: Some engines do not use an oil pump chain, and individual kits may add or omit components. The lists above also name a complete gasket and seal kit alongside individual seal sets. Review the product page to see how those parts are packaged for your vehicle.

What Do the Main Rebuild Kit Parts Do?

Pistons and Piston Rings

The piston moves inside the cylinder. It transfers combustion force through the connecting rod to the crankshaft. Piston rings help seal combustion pressure, manage oil on the cylinder wall, and move heat away from the piston.

Worn or damaged rings are one possible cause of low compression or oil consumption. However, symptoms alone do not identify the failed part. Testing and inspection help determine what needs replacement.

Cylinder

The cylinder provides the surface the pistons and rings move against. A scored or damaged cylinder can prevent new rings from sealing as intended. Inspect and measure the cylinder against the engine manufacturer’s specifications before deciding whether to reuse it.

Intake Valves, Exhaust Valves, and Valve Seals

Intake valves allow the incoming charge into the combustion chamber. Exhaust valves allow burned gases to leave. Bent, burned, or poorly sealing valves can affect compression and how the engine runs.

Valve seals have a separate job. They help control oil around the valve stems. New valve seals will not repair damaged valves, so inspect both when working on the cylinder head.

Crankshaft and Connecting Rods

Connecting rods join the pistons to the crankshaft. The crankshaft converts the pistons’ up-and-down movement into rotation. Damage to a rod, crankshaft, or related bearing calls for a closer look at the lower engine. Debris from a failure can affect other components, too.

Bearings

Bearings support rotating parts and reduce friction. Inspect the bearings and the surfaces they run against. Their condition helps determine the scope of the repair.

Cam Chain and Oil Pump Chain

The cam chain, also called a timing chain, keeps the camshaft and crankshaft in time. On engines that use an oil pump chain, that chain drives the oil pump. Check the chains and related drive components during the rebuild, then confirm what your vehicle’s kit includes.

Gaskets and Oil Seals

Gaskets seal joints between engine parts and help keep oil, coolant, and combustion pressure where they belong. Oil seals help retain oil around rotating shafts and keep contaminants out. Check the kit listing for the specific gaskets and seals supplied.

Want REV6 to Handle the Rebuild?

If you prefer to send in your rebuildable engine core, REV6 offers an engine rebuild service. Our team also offers cylinder head rebuilds and transmission rebuilds for supported models. You can also send in your old engine core to REV6 for cash!

For performance work, ask about ECU tuning and turbo upgrades. The available work depends on your vehicle and the condition of its components.

Confirm the Contents Before You Order

Keep your vehicle’s year, make, model, engine details, and inspection results handy. Compare the parts your repair needs with the exact product listing. If anything is unclear, talk with the REV6 team before ordering. You can also review the REV6 warranty policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Top End, Complete Top End, and Master Top End Rebuild Kit?

A REV6 Top End Rebuild Kit includes pistons, piston rings, top end gaskets, and valve seals. A Complete Top End Rebuild Kit adds a cylinder. A Master Top End Rebuild Kit also includes intake and exhaust valves. Confirm the exact contents on the product page for your year, make, and model.

Is a valve seal the same as an intake or exhaust valve?

No. Intake and exhaust valves control flow into and out of the combustion chamber. Valve seals help control oil around the valve stems. A kit that lists valve seals does not necessarily include replacement valves.

Does every REV6 rebuild kit include an oil pump chain?

No. Included chains depend on the engine design and the specific kit. Check the product’s component list to confirm whether it includes a cam chain, an oil pump chain, or both.

How do I confirm exactly what comes in my REV6 rebuild kit?

Match the product listing to your year, make, model, and engine. Then review its “This Kit Includes” list. Kit names explain the general repair scope, but the specific product list confirms what you will receive. Contact REV6 if you need help confirming contents or fitment.

Can REV6 rebuild my engine core instead of supplying a rebuild kit?

Yes. REV6 offers engine core rebuilds for supported models, subject to inspection and core condition. Cylinder head and transmission rebuilds are also available. Contact our team with your vehicle details to discuss your rebuild options.
