The REV6 Story: From Rentals to Rebuilds
If you walk into our shop today, youāll see engines on racks, parts being machined, and a team of builders who live and breathe powersports. But REV6 didnāt start as an engine remanufacturing company. In fact, our roots go back to something much simpler: a handful of jet skis and a dream to make a living doing what we love.
This is our storyāhow two friends turned a seasonal rental business into one of the countryās leading names in ATV, UTV, and powersports engine rebuilds.
Where It All Began
Back in 2008, the company’s founder, JJ launched ToyItUp.com with just six jet skis. It was a straightforward powersports rental businessāpeople wanted to get out on the water, and we gave them the machines to do it. Over time, the rental fleet grew into boats, side-by-sides, and snowmobiles. By 2015, we had 10 boats, 32 jet skis, 12 side-by-sides, and around 18 sleds in rotation.
The business was good in the summer months, but that seasonality made it hard to build something stable year-round. Winters were tough, and we knew we needed more than rentals to keep moving forward.
Building the Team
In 2013, Trevor joined JJ at REV6, and a year later, Dana (Master Technician) came on board. By then, we werenāt just rentingāwe were also doing local service work on powersports equipment. It was honest shop work, the kind that keeps you connected to riders and their machines.
Still, the big question hung over our heads: where could we take this? How do we turn a seasonal hustle into a sustainable business? By 2016, JJ and Trevor were actively planning an exit from the rental model. The challenge was figuring out what came next.
The Turning Point
Sometimes opportunity doesnāt knockāit sneaks in through the back door. In 2017, during one of those off-season brainstorming sessions, Mike (who is now on the sales team) suggested listing a snowmobile engine rebuild on eBay. Why not, right?
That little experiment changed everything. The engine sold quickly, and before long, we realized there was a serious need for high-quality rebuilds. We kept running the rental fleet, but the spark had been lit.
By February 2018, engine sales revenue surpassed the best summer rentals weād ever had. Just two months later, in April, rentals were shut down for good. From then on, our focus was clear: build engines, not rental fleets. We had eight employees and a new mission.

Growth Mode
The momentum kept building. In 2019, REV6 sold 100 engines in a single monthāa tipping point that made it obvious this wasnāt just a side gig anymore. With 13 employees, we were growing fast and learning even faster.
By 2020, JJ and Trevor went all in. They sold their other businesses and committed full-time to REV6. With 18 employees on board, we closed out the year with $5M in sales. That same year, we also began manufacturing parts, expanding into engine rebuild kits and components. By September, parts revenue hit $1M in just six months.
From āThe Caveā to the Big Four
For a while, our team operated out of what we affectionately called āthe caveāāa cramped space that barely kept up with demand. In 2021, REV6 officially moved into an 11,000-square-foot facility in Springville, Utah. It gave us room to breathe, room to build, and yes, even a pebble ice machine (if you know, you know).
That same year, the pandemic shifted family priorities, and engine orders swelled to nearly 300 a month. Demand skyrocketed, and REV6 became part of the āBig 4ā powersports engine remanufacturers in the country. By the end of 2021, we had 40 employees and $10M in revenue.
Sharpening Our Edge
In 2022, we knew growth wasnāt enoughāwe had to get leaner and sharper. We kicked off a lean manufacturing journey, cutting lead times, boosting profitability, and opening up our scoreboard so everyone could see the numbers.
The Road Ahead
Our story isnāt finishedāin fact, weāre just getting warmed up. As demand keeps climbing, weāre expanding our inventory beyond ATV and UTV engines into motorbikes, snowmobiles, personal watercraft (PWCs), and jet boats. That means more riders, racers, and weekend warriors will have access to the same Better Than New builds that have made us one of the most trusted names in powersports.
To keep pace with that growth, REV6 is expanding into a new state-of-the-art facility designed for the next chapter of our journey. This space isnāt just biggerāitās smarter. It gives us the room, the technology, and the efficiency to scale production while holding tight to the quality and craftsmanship that got us here.
The future of REV6 is about more engines, more innovation, and more ways to help riders stay on the throttle without worrying about whatās under the hood.

What We Stand For
Today, REV6 is more than just an engine remanufacturer. Weāre riders, builders, and problem-solvers who believe powersports are more than a hobbyātheyāre a way of life.
Hereās what sets us apart:
- In-house rebuilding ā From full engine builds to precision turbo systems, everything happens under our roof.
- Trail-proven performance ā We donāt just trust our workāwe test it in the same conditions our customers ride in.
- Customer-first mindset ā Every engine is backed by data, supported by a team that rides, and protected by our Better Than New warranty.
Why We Do It
If you ask Trevor why REV6 exists, the answer is simple: āWe started this company because we needed something more than seasonal rentals. But we kept it going because we love taking care of riders.ā
Thatās still the heartbeat of our shop today. Whether itās a farmer keeping his fleet running, a racer chasing the podium, or a weekend warrior looking for more horsepower, weāre here to deliver reliability, performance, and confidence.

Welcome to the REV6 Family
At the end of the day, weāre not just rebuilding enginesāweāre helping people get back on the trail, back to work, and back to making memories.
From those first six jet skis to becoming one of the āBig 4,ā our story has always been about more than sales or numbers. Itās about building freedom and reliability for every rider who trusts us with their machine.
We ride what we build. We stand behind what we sell. And weāre just getting started.
